Leaving New Zealand 17 may 2023, arriving in Amsterdam 18 may and being picked up from Schiphol by Annita and Dick who took us to Nunspeet were we are staying AirBandB in the loft on the Brouwerskamp in Nunspeet. I’ts very close to the shops and trainstation. Annita organised our OV chipcards which allows us to travel cheap during non busy times on trains and busses.
Bob is very happy that we took a lot of books with us to spread amongst the family and friends. It’s a book about Boudewijn sr and it has taken Boudewijn jr a lot of time to finally finish it. Annita and Dirk received the first copy. The title; Boudewijn Sr Feiten en Herinneringen revers in part to a popular saying by Boudewijn sr; “Ik constateer een feit”. This means; “I state a fact”. This “popular” saying stopped most of the time any further discussion! Boudewijn sr had willpower and was a very driven man who could not be stopped once he had made up his mind. Read his storys, quite interesting especially since they are from recorded audios of the last 20 years of his life. Through this holiday we will every now and then refer to parts of the book whilst we are visiting parts of the Netherlands that relate to Boudewijn sr and Maria Margaretha Willemsen
19 May Bob took the train from Nunspeet to Zwolle and then the bus to Heerde. Walked to Gerrits place and checked the bike. Pumped up the tyres and they seemed ok for now. The left peddle was not attached and needed a nut. I peddled with one peddle (!) to the Reyers on the Pagenberg. It was nice to see Yvonne and Wil again and after a short chat I went to Mulders bike shop on the Zwolseweg. Henk Mulder recognized me straight away and even remembered my name! We decided that the bike needed 2 new inner tyres, the outer tyers are still “ok”. Henk was to busy so couldnt fix the bike for as few days so I decided to fix it myself. Henk quickly attached the peddle and put a bolt in the front flap and oiled the chain. I went back to Ryers to pick up my bits and pieces and Pa’s asshes which just fitted in my backpack, then went to Gerrits place to pick up some tools that I needed to fix the bike in Nunspeet. I biked down the Elburgerweg and turned into the Zuidweg and climbed the knobble before you get to het Harde. Then I took an inner route to Nunspeet. I put a new inner back tyre on and the bike seems ok for now.

Saturday 20 may visit Gep Willemsen and Kikky Willemsen-Nass
Sunday 21 may Bob went to Wapenveld en Heerde by bike and lindsay went to Wapenveld by train and bus. Gertjan en Trijnie Boudewijn and Gerrit. Gerrit lent us his electric bike and we biked to Heerde to visit Joop Wiederhold and had a nice chat with him and gave him a book also. Then to Mevr Augustinus who still lives on the Papaverweg. We are going to meet Joop again in Heerde and will go out for a meal with him. (foto’s of Joop to follow) Gerrit died 26 may in the evening
Monday 21 may Bob biked to Wapenveld and Heerde again to visit Gerrit and Mevr Augustinus again. Bob was hoping to talk to Gerrit one on one because the day before it seemed all a bit to much for him. Bob found Gerrit asleep and didn’t wake him up. Then went to Heerde to visit mevr Augustinus to drop of a book. (The day before I gave Gerrit a book I hadn’t planned). Bob ran out of battery and found it hard to bike back to Nunspeet. He tried in vain to save electricity by every now and then turning the battery off
Tuesday 22 may going to Terschelling with Annita Sybenga-Reijmerink and Dirk Sybenga. Took the train to Leeuwarden where they picked us up. We stayed 2 nights at de Horper Wielen in Kaard and took the Huifkar from Hoorn to the tweede duintjes and back. We stopped several times. Went back to Nunspeet 25 may

Saturday 27 may we had Iris and Dolf visiting us in the afternoon. It was very nice and Iris seemed very happy with the book
Sunday 28 we flew from Schiphol to Southampton and got picked up by Sylvia and Alan and drove to their place
We stayed 2 days with Sylvia and Alan and Monday we visited the Watercress line https://watercressline.co.uk/ in Alresford and Tuesday we visited Weald & Downland living museum https://www.wealddown.co.uk/ near Singleton. Here you can visit the “repair shop” (Court Barn from Lee-on-Solent)

Wednesday may 31 Alan and Sylvia took us to London next day to catch the Eurostar to Paris. We arrived at Gare du Nord and walked only some 150 meters across the road to Hotel Richmond. We are staying in room 25 second floor at the back which is a very nice bedroom with good bathroom.

Thursday we had a nice breakfast in “the New Hotel” and from Gare du Nord took metro 4 to Barbès Rochechoart and from there metro 2 to Blanche at Montmartre. We took the little “train” to the Sacre Coeur. We bought 2 paintings, one acrylic and one oil. We saw the paintings in progress;

In the evening we arrived back at the hotel and had a nice view of the Hotel and Gare du North
Friday 2 june we went home with the Thalys from Paris to Amsterdam and went into Amsterdam centre to wait for the daluren travel by train back to Nunspeet
Sunday 4 June we went to Zwolle and Gerrit picked us up from the trainstation. From there we went to Herxen to visit Sjoertje Hak who had made a copy of the aquarel that was stolen when pa moved from de Pagenberg to the Rehoboth. It was a very pleasant visit and we took a lot of photo’s.
which hoofdstuk? selling Pagenberg met story letter pa after selling Story about the old wardrobe at the Pagenberg; Gerrit had pa’s house hold effects stored at a place in Zwolle. (Name business) Gerrit sold the old wardrobe that had belonged to ma’s parents for €500. The owner was going to puck up all the old household effects and also the old wardrobe. They tried in vain to get it out of the house, but it didn’t fit through the balcony door or any other upstairs window, in the end they tried to take it apart but it all broke in pieces and got destroyed. Pa had already received the money. Later when all house hold items were returned to pa’s place in the Rehoboth, Gerrit noticed that some items were missing. Boudewijn jr supplied Gerrit with photo’s of all the household items since he had made a photographic inventory of all household items. Two of the important paintings were missing ! The aquarel that pa had received as a present when he retired from Sikkens Smits in wapenveld. And a painting that hung in the living room. Gerrit confronted the owner about this and wanted the owner to put an insurance claim in for the lost paintings. The owner was not pleased about this and told Gerrit he was not going to charge for the storage ! Sometime later Gerrit visited the business that had stored the household items since they also had a second hand shop. Gerrit was hoping to find the lost paintings for sale in this shop. But he could not locate them. Gerrit thinks that the owner took the 2 paintings as compensation for the broken wardrobe. The funny thing about the whole story is; when the house on thew pagenberg was build, pa knew that the wardrobe in question was to big to get into the house once it was build. So he put the wardrobe in the house before the big windows and doors went into the house. So I could have told Gerrit it was impossible to get the wardrobe out of the house in one piece. Pa could probably not remember this anymore, or it got lost in translation.
After moving in de Pagenberg there where a lot of problems with the house, so the builder had to come back many times. At a certain stage mum became angry with the people on site that she told them to leave and never come back ! And they didn’t !
Wednesday june 7 we met Wim in Zwolle at the station and had a good chat with him. We decided to buy him a smart phone and went to the Belsimpel shop in de Dieserstraat. We explained to Wim what had to happen and we meet again in Zwolle on friday june 9 at 7pm or earlier. We are not going to Hester because Faas is sick. Then we went to Heerde and visited Yvonne and Wil and Joop. We had a nice time wth Wil and Yvonne on the Pagenberg 12. Wil dropped us off at Joop’s place and we went out to the “Spikke” just across the road. We got on with Joop really well and we talked about Joop perhaps coming to New Zealand but Joop has days he doesn’t feel that good. We hope he will come. Joop took us to de “Rehoboth” to pick up the Book that Gerrit never read. It was left there by Gertjan.

Thursday 8 june Bob went to Weesp and first went across the Lange Vechtbrug to “Eeterij de Schlakse across the Vecht for a cup of Coffee. Luuk and Bob went there in sept 2017 when in Holland for Opa’s 98th birthday. Then I walked to the cemetary “Landscroon” and cleaned and repainted the gravestones. The p[aint was still ok but the shine had gone. Then I walked back to the Kerkstraat and took photo’s of the province arms. There are only 8 still there and I couldnt take the 2 in the Middenstraat because of the sun. I also took a photo of the sign above the front door.

Friday 9th of may went to see Willem in Zwolle and Lindsay had already set up Willems phone and we had a few drinks.
Saturday 10 may. Bob went back to Weesp with a small stepladder to be able to get the correct height to take photo’s again this time from the Middenstraat windows. Bob just arrived and then the owners turned up. They were very friendly, and we had a look inside and we realized that the glass in lead was much better from the inside because they had been installed on the inside with the drawings facing inside. Je kunt door de raampjes de kerk aan de Kerkstraat zien en de Middenstraat. De huidige eigenaars zijn van plan om de schilderingen te laten restaureren. De onderste schildering; “wie het oosten wil bereiken, die moet uit het westen wijken” is boven de voordeur.
Sunday 11 June; reunion at the Pannekoekenhuis in Nunspeet. It was a very nice coming together with Gerdien, Anneke, Alina (Visser) end Irene de Valk, Mark Hester Marjolein Frank Amber Madelief Feline Gerrit Claartje Lindsay en Boudewijn. I felt I found 4 new cousins ! Some interesting discoveries ! According to my cousins one Dokter (gp) mentioned when my mum and dad got together that they should not have kids because of suspected background in both families. I realized I heard that story before sometime. It seems a strange conclusion from a gp such a long time ago. The cousins said that Rie, my mum didn’t want anything or at least much to do with Alie and Nelie and I suspect that might have contributed to the non-contact between Boudewijn and the non contact between him and his sisters. There must have been other reasons as well !? Rie was not a very social person and liked to keep to herself. Its a shame because I have such very nice cousins ! I think these type of matters become potentially an issue when we grow up and question things later in life. “what and why did this happen?” I suspect that Boudewijn had a touch of autism. I talked to Joop an old friend of Boudewijn and he seemed to confirm this thought. I told him about the “Ik constateer een feit” statements from Boudewijn. Joop said that a facts based person most of the time has no (or at least a lot less) emotional expressions. I know it was difficult for dad to be emotional and talk about emotions. I think his very young experiences during the war might have made him this way or at least might have added to his way of being. There is a letter in the book that I found in which he describes how he felt when he first met Rie. He didn’t feel very secure before he met her. (see letter). It’s all a bit guess work but it helps to fill the picture. For dad it was a very big disappointment that his flying career ended the day Germany invaded Holland. Dad talked a lot about the war during his life. Inez and Machiel had “ill” feelings towards Boudewijn (sr). In this light here its understandable. Boudewijn was not emotional and felt everything was based on facts. Inez “found” Mark and he was the opposite of dad. Inez suffered from depression and Mark was a rock for her. It’s a shame but parents do their best with what they have at the time. I overheard one day when I was in Holland (1998 ?) that Rie told Inez; “I always thought you two (Inez and Machiel) were ok”. Inez must have mentioned something. I know that when Inez and Michiel came home in weekends there was never much time for them to talk to mum or dad because Rie was always so busy with Boudewijn jr and Wim because they were very “difficult” kids (always up to no good !) Rie had her hands full. And what made mum think Inez and Machiel were ok was partially because Inez and Machiel were very good kids that never caused a problem. (“I thought you two were ok”). When scattering the ashes at paal 17 I said; “You were a very good dad with the abilities you had”. I think thats what it comes down to.
- Rie; Christina Willemsen Rekers was geen voorstandster van het huwelijk.
- Een huisarts heeft indertijd gezegd dat hij dacht dat de combinatie niet verstandig was voor het voortbrengen van kinderen. Christina Willemsen Rekers heeft tussen 1942 en 1947 gezegd tegen (? Rie ?) dat ze het niet verstandig vond dat ze kinderen zouden krijgen.
- Christina heeft indertijd ge-uit; “haar dochter is anders”. Iets dergelijks.
- Op latere ledftijd aan de Pagenberg voelde Rie zich niet goed en dokter Verhoeven constateerde na enig onderzoek dat Rie een “verborgen” depressie had
- Rie heeft weleens verteld dat als ze alles geweten had, ze niet getrouwd was met pa en of geen kinderen had gekregen.
- Rie heeft een keer flink mot gehad met Nelie (en of Ali ?) waarschijnlijk vlak na huwelijk ?
Irene de Valk; Nou ja, ze gingen, eenmaal getrouwd en met puberkinders met elkaar op vakantie. Alina vond mijn moeder een vrije vogel. Ze was niet wars van vrij kamperen met ons, en reed in haar eentje naar Zuid Frankrijk met ons…maar verder weet ik het niet zo. Als ik lees wat onze opa met zijn zonen deed vind ik het gewoon genant hoe hij met zijn dochters (niet) omging. Laat staan ze mee uit vliegen nemen of een opleiding betalen. Mijn moeder heeft haar hele leven dit geprobeerd in te halen met allerlei cursussen zoals Engels Frans, Duits. Ook ging ze met ons in 1975 geloof ik Van Gogh achterna”, samen met Alie en de kinderen. We bezochten Arles, Tarascon, de begraafplaats enz. Heel bijzonder
Jannetje kwam terecht bij Hester ! De pop die Rie won tijdens een vakantie in Terschelling in Oosterend (Midsland). Alina heeft nog een schilderij van Machiel ! Ze zal nog een goede foto opsturen.
Maandag 12 juni; Bob fietst naar s’Herenbroek waar Wim woont. Kwam laat aan want ik was vergeten de oplader mee te nemen dus besloot vanaf Elburg tot s’Herenbroek zonder batterij te fietsen. Die fiets is zwaar ! Tijdje bij Wim geweest en samen naar Heerde. De batterij was net genoeg om naar Heerde te gaan. Wim volgde mij op de moped. We kwamen net voor Lindsay bij Gerrit en Claar aan. Lindsay was per trein en bus naar Heerde gekomen. Bij Gerrit en Claar gegeten, en Gerrit heeft ons daarna naar Nunspeet gebracht.
Dinsdag lekker niets gedaan en in Nunspeet vertoefd.
Woensdag 14 juni; We went to Wezep and Gerrit picked us from there. Drove all the way to Overloon museum and picked up the 3 paintings that my dad lent to the museum in 1993. They have once been on an exhibition in Prague and since then been in storage in Overloon. Overloon is not a museum that has paintings showing in a studio.
Donderdag 16 juni; Gisteren niet naar gouda want we voelden ons niet goed. Vandaag Boudewijn met fiets via de Eperweg vanuit Nunspeet via Epe naar Gerrit om fiets daar achter te laten. Eerst ontmoette ik Wim bij de Postkamer en na een drankje naar Gerrit met Wim. Nog even op bezoek bij de Reijers en nog wat as achtergelaten bij hen voor volgend jaar. Fijn afscheid en tot volgend jaar! Weer terug naar Gerrit en na een uurtje lopend naar de bushalte en terug mnaar Nunspeet met bus en trein. Haalde net de juiste trein maar die werd gecancelled! Kwam om 7 uur aan in Nunspeet bij de Bankert om Anita Blijdorp te ontmoeten. Was leuk en we exchanged a lot of information. Anita kreeg ons boek en wij kregen Anitas book over Catrinus Douma. Daar staat ook Boudewijn in genoemd; legitimatie van de gedenkboek commissie die ook in mijn boek staat.

Bou schrijft: “Voor de LO werd ik districtsleider…. etc. Na de bevrijding zijn al die mensen bij elkaar geweest en is er een groepsfoto gemaakt en daar sta ik ook op”.
Wat zou dat mooi zijn om die foto te vinden! Ik ga op zoek.

[11/6, 19:50] Hester Mast: Ha Boudewijn! Ben wat aan het bladeren en kijken in het boek. Op blz 179 staat dat oma een pop won in Oosterend. En dat iemand in de familie deze pop heeft. Is dat deze pop? (Oosterend is volgens mij Midsland) (volgens Boudewijn won ma de pop toen ze de juiste zeeuwse meisjesnaam raadde in een naam wedstrijdje van een plaatselijke winkel in Midsland ; Jannetje)

Meegaan naar uitnodiging Den Haag 5 mei toespraak;
[11/6, 20:20] Hester Mast: Ik ben toen met opa meegegaan. Dat voelde heel speciaal. Ik heb erover geschreven in mijn dagboek ( vooraf, helaas niet daarna) op 30 april 1995: we gaan (mar en ik) als alles goed gaat van dinsdag tot vrijdag bij opa en oma logeren. Paps en mams gaan dan in een hotel. Opa heeft een uitnodiging voor een 5 mei toespraak in Den Haag. Opa mag dan een persoon onder de 30 meenemen en ik mag mee! Mar en ik hebben geloot , yes! Ik ben het Wilhelmus al aan het oefenen!
18 juni; Hebben Chiel en Marian ontmoet voor lunch en het was erg leuk! Veel bijgepraat.
Hoofdstuk 8 Balder; zo wit als een doek bijgevoegd

Naar Terschelling en terug op 1 dag !
Ik ben naar Terschelling geweest met de trein, openbaar vervoer naar Harlingen en toen met de
boot naar Terschelling en met de bus tot Oosterend en daar heb ik een fiets gehuurd en ben ik
over de Boschplaat naar het einde van het eiland gefietst en weer terug op 1 dag dat was voor
mij een uitdaging van kan ik dat nog op 1 dag. Ik was die dag wel een kilo afgevallen. Dat weet
ik nog goed. Het was een heel slecht pad op de Boschplaat. Als je nou te langzaam reed met je
fiets dan kreeg je bij ieder kuiltje een oplazer. Het ging het beste als je een flinke snelheid
handhaafde, dan had je minder last van die hobbels.

Catrinus Douma ligt daar ook begraven ( erebegraafplaats Bloemendaal) dat (die) was een LO medewerker aan de Wieringermeer. Die had ook een wapen op zak toen die gecontroleerd werd. En nog 1 of 2 die ik gekend heb (die daar begraven liggen) ( B ken je nog meer namen van mensen die daar begraven zijn ?) Ik ben niet zo goed met namen, maar er zijn er ongeveer 4 geloof ik, Catrinus Douma, Balder en nog een paar, die ik heb gekend maar waar ik niet zo intensief kontakt mee had maar die ik wel kende.
Was een keer met pa in Heerde met de fiets in ik denk rond 1976. Pa en ik waren in het dorp ongeveer tegenover van Setten (kledingwinkel). Het moet in de zomer zijn geweest, een Duitsers stopte op straat en vroeg de weg; “weisen sie wo der weg ist zu Apeldoorn? ” Pa antwoordde direkt met; “was haben sie gemacht in der krieg? ” (de Duitser was van zijn leeftijd). “Ah der krieg, wier haben nicht gewust”. Verder werd er denk ik niet veel meer gezegd en daar kon de Duitser het mee doen. Pa liet hem gewoon staan en we liepen verder.
