South of Rivendell
Whilst you’re in the area, a visit to South of Rivendell at Mount Olympus is a must… here you can mimic the fellowship as they hid under the pinnacle rock formations from Saruman’s black crows in an attempt to escape discovery. Mount Owen and Olympus are nestled in the remote back-country and can be visited during a tour with Helicopters Nelson.

Rototai Beach 30 March 2022
Rototai Beach 360 panorama 30 March 2022. You can see Farewell Spit and Tata Islands. I walked from Rototai Beach to Pohara at low tide. It took about 90 minutes, and it was the most amazing walk. I walked as close as possible to the waterline and the tide was just starting to come in. It reminded me of the time I walked with my dad on Terschelling in Holland. We walked to the end of the Boschplaat.
Walking from Rototai Beach to Pohara beach 31 March 2022. Lindsay and Bob walked from Rototai Beach to Pohara beach at lo tide, and Bob biked back over the beaches back to Rototai to pick up the car
